So in November I participated in NaNoWriMo (National Novel Writing Month) and successfully completed the rough draft of my first novel, which needs a lot of editing, but which I am overall very happy with.

This month is Script Frenzy, a similar challenge where you are supposed to write 100 page script in 30 days.  I'm writing a series of short comics scripts featuring my OC characters that I've been posting on here.

Unfortunately I've run in to some snags!  It's day 9 and so I should have about 30 pages done, and I don't.  I have 8.  I've run into three problems.

1) It's more difficult than I thought getting used to writing in comics script format.  I'm using the full script style that Peter David describes in his book Writing For Comics and Graphic Novels.  I don't know how much of an industry standard that style is, but I like it because it gives me the writer control over what happens when and how while still leaving enough up to the artist (assuming there will ever be one) to allow them creativity, but gives them something to go off of.  I think this problem will go away as I get used to writing a script instead of writing prose.  I just need to adjust to thinking about panels, dialogue balloons and what fits on a page.

2) I'm lacking ideas on just what to have my characters do.  I love my characters and I really want to start developing them, but I don't know what kind of conflicts to put each through.

3) I'm overall lacking motivation.

I could use everybody's help on these things.  If anybody has written comics scripts before and has pointers for me, please let me know.  And if anybody has some cool or funny plot point ideas for any of my OC characters that you don't mind suggesting for my use, I am officially open to ideas.  But most of all, I need the motivation to work and try to write about 5 pages a day (what I'd truthfully have to do to catch up) So if anyone just wants to drop in and post their interest and their support, I think that would help most of all.  Knowing there's a potential audience who might think my stories are cool makes me much more willing to put the work in to write than thinking I'm just writing for myself.

Thanks to everyone and anyone.

God Bless,
    Ryan

One of the reasons I'm here on DeviantArt is that I really love superheroes, and since you're here, you probably do too. I think to some point we all do. We all admire the idea of someone who is out there fighting for what's right.   Fighting to make a difference.  Well, right now we all have a chance to be a hero, and it doesn't take super-strength or x-ray vision, ninja fighting skills or telepathy, high-tech gadgets or even a cool car.

No all it takes is $5, a small donation to the National MS Society.  You see MS or Multiple Sclerosis is a disease that effects a new person every hour.  Having multiple sclerosis means that you may not be able to walk when you wake up. Or that you may suddenly have impaired vision. Or that your memory will fail you for no apparent reason. The symptoms of MS are different, and devastating, for everyone - the only certainty is that it will affect yet another person every hour of every day.

I've registered for the MS Walk because I want to do something for the people who have been diagnosed - and because I want to do everything to prevent more people from learning what it means to live with this disease. Today, there is no cure for multiple sclerosis, and with a diagnosis occurring most frequently between the ages of 20 and 50, many individuals face a lifetime filled with unpredictability.

The National Multiple Sclerosis Society will use funds collected from the MS Walk to not only support research for a cure tomorrow, but also to provide programs which address the needs of people living with MS today. Because we choose to walk for those who sometimes can't, because we choose to donate to the MS Walk, we are getting closer to the hour when no one will have to hear the words, "You have MS."

So if you've ever dreamed of being a hero, you don't have to go looking for a radioactive spider to bite you, or to be bombarded by cosmic rays.  Just reach in to your utility belt and pull out a $5 bill.  If every one of my facebook friends donated just $5 I'd be able to raise over $1500.  You can donate right on my facebook page, or by clicking here

If you can't donate $5 think about donating $2 or even $1, every little bit helps.  If there's any way you can donate more than $5, please consider it.  I believe there's a hero in all of us.  Please do what you can to help the MS Society.

Thanks so much and God Bless.

Ok,so, since I'm home sick and have done about all the sleeping and pill-popping and cough-syrup downing and drinking of tea I can, and since there's recently been a short list of possible actors to play Captain America released, I thought I would sit down and jot down my short list of actors I think could possibly play Captain America, and while I was at it, write this incredibly long, drawn out, run-on sentence.  Here we go, in no order in particular, actors Ryan thinks could play Captain America.

1. Chris Pine
2. Jensen Ackles
3. Channing Tatum
4. Ryan McPartlin
5. Justin Hartly

A couple of these guys have already played classic comics or sci-fi characters, Pine of course is the new Jim Kirk, Tatum is GI Joe's Duke, and Hartly is Smallville's Green Lantern (and was Aquaman on an unaired pilot that's quite good you should find it and watchit).  But if Ryan Reynolds can be both The Green Lantern and Deadpool then these guys could take on a 2nd super-role.  They're all Tall-enough with Pine, Ackles and Tatum all at 6'1" and McPartlin and Hartly at 6'3" and are all at least simi-age appropriate, Pine and Tatum are 29, Ackles 31, Hartly 33, and McPartlin 34(Thanks IMDB for giving us so much useless information) but could all pass for being in their 20's.  More importantly 2 are from Illinois, one from California, one from Texas and one from Alabama.  That's right, they're AMERICAN.  I realize that Batman is Welsh and Hugh Laurie tricks even those who know he's British into thinking he's American on a weekly basis, but Captain America HAS to be played by an American, just as if they ever make a Captain Britain film, I will insist he be played by a Brit (that short list coming soon!)

Most importantly they're all good actors.  I've only seen McPartlin in a couple of episodes of Chuck, but the rest are all great and a couple of friends of mine put McPartlin on as a choice, and his first name's Ryan so of course he's got talent.

Anyways, I've wasted enough of your time.  Enjoy the rest of your day, I'm gonna lay down and continue to not talk today.  But Joe Johnston if you're reading this and you haven't considered these guys think about adding them to your short list, and Joe remember I said that The Rocketeer and Wolfman are both awesome movies.

By the way this note is now available at my new blog at atworld42.blogspot.com/

Lazy

Why is it I love drawing and yet I only find time to do a pic, like once a month at best?  Why is it that I love writing but I've only completed two chapters of the book I started writing about 2 years ago?  Why is it that I like reading but I seem to take a really long time to finish reading a book?  Why is it that I like to take walks but I'm sitting on my couch?

Prayer request

1 min read
Hey everybody,
So I know a lot of my friends on here are pretty faithful followers of Christ, and so I thought I might put this request for prayers up here.  On Thursday I found out my Dad has cancer in his throat.  They're pretty sure they'll be able to get it all, and they say there's not much to worry about, but even so, if some of you guys could just keep him in your prayers I'd be very greatful.  Thanks so much,
Love and God Bless,
Ryan
